Recap of Varsity Game vs Washburn Rural by Frank Beer
Dodging rain and lightning, the Manhattan Indians provided a power surge of their own in a 28 – 6 victory in a weather shortened game on Friday. The Indians started the scoring in the first quarter with an Ian Trapp 1 yard run. The highlight of the drive was a conversion of a 4th and 15 yard play on a pass from Ian to Tariq Gerald. On their second drive of the game, the Tribe found themselves on the 1 yard line after a failed pitch play. But proceeded to march with purpose down the field. They appeared to be stalled on the 17 yard line, but converted a 3rd and long with a 14 yard pass to Jonathan Taylor from Ian. Iverson Robb finished the drive off with a 3 yard run. Washburn Rural scored their only points of the game late in the first half as the skies opened and it poured rain. Their 2 point try failed and the first half ended with the score at 14 – 6.
The Manhattan High Indians traveled again to Highland Park, who does not play road games due to budget constraints. And the Tribe seemed to be right at home. Winning the coin toss and taking the opening kickoff they scored on an 18 yard run by Iverson Robb. The defense shut down the Scots and Manhattan scored on the second play of their second drive on a 43 yard run by Ian Trapp. A 2 point conversion run by Reece Wewer made the score 15-0. After the Scots muffed a punt, the Indians scored their third touchdown of the half on a 9 yard run by Ian to close out scoring for the half at 22-0.
